Say 'No' to discrimination - Bengaluru PRCI-YCC celebrate Daughters’ Day

BENGALURU: Celebrating Daughter’s Day on Sunday with the theme #Shakti4Beti in memory of Kalpana Chawla the Indo- American NASA astronaut who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster, PRCI-YCC felicitated six young women achievers awarded scholarship to a girl student from economically backward section.
Social activist Dr. AkkaiPadmashali, fitness expert Wanita Ashok, playback singer Supriya Lohit, police constable Archana, Pragati TV, head of operations, Shilpashree, and head of marketing & exports, Peenya Industrial Gases Pvt. Ltd Laksmi Pillay, were presented awards for being women achievers.

Scholarships were awarded to Hirshita who scored 93.12% in SSLC and financial assistance was extended to Nishanka B.R., a Press Club office helper.
The event was organized by  Public Relations Council  of India (PRCI) and Young Communicators Club (YCC), who have been holding this event for the past seven years. 
This year, PRCI and YCC launched a movement called ‘Swabhiman’ to empower the girl child. Swabhiman is a non-violent movement to empower women through Public Relations.
Well-known poet and Lyricist Dr Doddarange Gowda, a Padmashree awaredee, Dr. N.S Leela, the driving force behind Agastya Foundation Connecting the Dot an Organisation taking science to rural India and forging new educational methods aiming to bring about a change in the pattern of education, spoke.
PRCI-Bengaluru also launched its house journal VAAGMI. 
Dr Gowda, a Padmashree awaredee, said society should not discriminate women. Both male and female are interdependent. It is sad to see the discrimination rising even at high levels in the society. He likened woman to a doctor of the family as she take care of the family’s health. Her presence is seen in every walk of life – from the sky to the earth, he said.

Dr. N.S Leela asked the society to stop thinking that a woman is dependent. The voice of women power is reaching its new heights. We require these type of events and programmes to make the presence of womanhood felt, she said and appreciated the awardees belonging to different fields.
Dr. Akkai is a male-to-female Transwoman, social activist. Her journey is one of courage and determination. From begging on the streets and participating in sex work for two square meals a day, she is now an activist that has inspired many.
Padmashali has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India against Section 377 stating that the colonial law is in violation of the constitutional rights as well as the 2014 National Legal Service Authority judgment. She was invited by the International Bar Association to speak about the legal rights of sexual minorities, in a conference held at Tokyo in October 2014. She is the first transgender person to receive an honorary doctorate from the Indian Virtual University for Peace and Education.
Constable, Karnataka State Police posted at Electronic City Police Station, Bengaluru, Archana showed exemplary humane concern by breastfeeding an abandoned child on May 30th, 2018. The newborn was found by a rag-picker at a construction site, stuffed in a plastic bag with his umbilical cord twisted around his neck. This simple act by a young mother of a three-month old baby demonstrated her courage, strength and hope for all of us.

Mr MB Jayaram, Chairman Emeritus and Chief Mentor of PRCI expressed gratitude to all guests for participating in the event. He also mentioned that daughters are our pride to our nation and equal opportunities have to be given to them. Empowering the girl child would bring a positive change to the society.
Dr LataT S, Chairperson PRCI Bangalore  explained that through the Young Communicators Club (YCC), the youth wing of PRCI, the organisation holds seminars, conferences, workshops and internships. 
A skit by 17 girl students from Cauvery Kanya Gurukulam of Srirangapatna and a play SEE ME AS WE by Acharya Institute of Graduation Students were the other highlights of the event.
#Shakti4Beti campaign was launched in 2016, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare 1 July as Daughter’s Day in memory of astronaut Kalpana Chawla. This campaign falls in line with the Union government’s campaign ‘BetiBachaoBetiPadhao’ to communicate the issue of security of the girl child. PRCI has been trying to create awareness about such an empowerment of girls and women.

MUMBAI July 01: Celebrating Daughters Day today, in memory of India born US astronaut Kalpana Chawla, Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) has launched a campaign to run self defense programmes for girls to instill a sense of confidence and esteem to achieve glory.

July 1 is Kalpana’s official date of birth. She had an illustrious career achieving sky high glory and died along with six crew members of the Space Shuttle Columbia which disintegrated over Texas during its re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere, just 16 minutes before landing. Even after her tragic death, Kalpana continues to be a shining example and icon for many girls around the world.

In Mumbai the Daughters Day was celebrated by Mumbai University's Department of Communication and KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) by organising events like debate, photography and poster  competitions and skits focusing on girl security.

The two institutions agreed to conduct self defense programmes for girl students.

PRCI has tied up with organizations like Sportzconsult to run 10-day crash courses for girls with the help of trained martial arts experts. The drive will also cover corporates to run workshops to prevent sexual harassment at workplaces with the help of legal experts like Complykaro.



Powered by Concept PR, PRCI launched #shakti4beti campaign to focus on Beti Suraksha (girl security) on social media and online forums which evinced lot of interest.

“Beti Suraksha (girl security) falls in line with the Union Government’s campaign Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao. We as communication professionals firmly believe that it is absolutely important to communicate to the society at large on the issue that bothers all – the security of the girl child,” said PRCI national president B N Kumar.

PRCI - the national body of PR, media, advertising, HR professionals and mass communication teachers and students – has petitioned the Prime Minister and tweeted to the HRD Minister urging for their help and support for #shakti4beti. 

“We are taking up the issue across the country through our 30 plus chapters and happy to see growing interest among corporates to ensure self confidence of women and girls,” said M B Jayaram, Chairman Emeritus and Chief Mentor of PRCI said.

Rs-10-a-day campaign in Delhi for #shakti4beti

#shakti4beti gains momentum with Beti Padhao campaign!

Keeping the initiative of PM Narendra Modi in their hearts, the Delhi chapter of PRCI will be sponsoring schooling of almost 50 girls who belong to less privileged families.

After an extensive search our team identified the Govt Girls High School situated in Delhi NCR area.

To celebrate Daughters Day and spread the message of BETI BACHAO - BETI PADHAO, the PRCI members we will be visiting the school in mid July,2016 and will handover the amount collected that will cover their tuition fee,books,uniform etc for one year.

An informative session with a leading gynecologist will also be arranged during our visit to make these girls aware of personal hygiene and health.

PRCI will also organise a self defence presentation by an expert keeping in mind the Beti ki Suraksha motto

Daughter, Epitome of sacrifice & bravery

BHOPAL: Daughter is the epitome of sacrifice and also bravery at every step and in every situation. God has endowed her with special attributes which enable her to perform her role well as a daughter, wife, mother, sister and so on and on. She spreads happiness through her grace, charm, understanding and caring attitude.
Stating this, Dr. Sudha Pathak, Principal, Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, exhorted all girls to continue to build self-confidence and to excel in life.
Speaking at the Daughters’ Day event organized by Bhopal Chapter of PRCI in association with Rotary Club of Bhopal Midtown, Dr. Pathak explained how girls have outsmarted in every field not only at national but at global level.

Subhranshu Upadhyaya, Asstt. Governor, Rotary International District 3040 was the Chief Guest. Rajesh Namdev, President, Rotary Club and C K Sardana, Chairman, PRCI Bhopal Chapter graced the occasion.
Mahendra Joshi, eminent Motivational Speaker gave an inspiring speech asking the students to keep updating their knowledge and skills. Darwin's theory 'Survival of the fittest' is much more relevant today than at any other time, he added.
Dr. Asha Agarwal, Vice Prinicpal, and Dr. Neena Arora, HOD/Chemistry and Student Union Incharge also spoke. Ms Awasthi compered the programme.
The Other highlights of the programme were a poetry and collage and poster competitions.

Subhranshu Upadhyaya presented mementos to the College Principal for her outstanding contribution to academics. Mementos were also given to Dr. Asha Agarwal and Dr. Neena Arora. Trophies were presented to the winners in various competitions.

PRCI, Delhi Chapter Celebrates Daughter’s Day on July 4

New Delhi: To celebrate Daughters’ Day, PRCI Delhi Chapter  organised a site visit to Holy Family Ashaniwas, an orphanage for girls at Mahavir Nagar, Dabri-Palam Road, Delhi. Study material, games, bedsheets and refreshments were presented to the children.

 PRCI celebrates Daughters’ Day as an annual event to create focus attention on the importance of the girl child. This year the event has received added impetus with the launch of  'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Holy Family Ashaniwas children were overwhelmed to see PRCI delegates and sang a heartwarming welcome and prayer song.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. N.D. Rajpal, Chairman, Governing Council PRCI told the children about the importance of education in their lives.  He also highlighted various activities conducted by PRCI all over India.

Dr. Gaganjit Singh, Chairman, Delhi Chapter, wished all the children and encouraged them to talk about their areas of interest.  He also interacted with the staff to discuss further possibilities of aid to be given.

The children interacted with the PRCI team talking about their favourite subjects, hobbies and career dreams. While the younger ones (aged 3-8) were happy talking about their favourite food, movie stars, what games they play etc., it was the older group of children who spoke about their knowledge of Kalpana Chawla, our Prime Minister  Narendra Modi, their aspirations like to become a teacher, computer engineer as well as a sportswoman.  



“It was truly a heartwarming interaction,” said Dr Gaganjit Singh.

The event was organized as a part of PRCI Delhi Chapter’s CSR activities, to bring joy into the lives of these 40 girls residing in Ashaniwas who are being looked after by a dedicated team headed by Sister Suzan.
